Boys are more likely to be neglected and abused.
They are more likely to be put into foster care and less likely to be adopted
once they are in care.
Boys are 22% more likely to end up in foster care.
There were 67,050 children in local authority care
in England on 31 March 2012. Of these 36,878 (55%) are boys and 30,172 are
girls (45%).
Girls in foster care are more likely (16%) to be
adopted.
1,760 boys (that’s 4.8% of boys in care) were adopted
in 2011-2012 compared to1,690 girls (that’s 5.6% of girls in care).
